You probably landed here because you found more than one website calling itself Sharda Online, or because someone quoted you a NAAC grade that does not match what you read somewhere else. Both of those things are real, and both have straightforward explanations.
Sharda is not fake. But there are four specifics worth knowing before you pay, and most pages ranking for this question get at least one of them wrong.
The A+ is real. It also sits at the floor of the band.
Sharda holds NAAC A+ from its second assessment cycle, awarded in January 2023 and valid to January 2030. The CGPA behind that grade is 3.27.
Here is the part nobody mentions. The A+ band runs from 3.26 to 3.50. Sharda sits at 3.27, one hundredth of a point above the bottom of the band. A university at 3.49 and a university at 3.27 both advertise the same two characters, and they are not describing the same assessment outcome.
That is not an accusation of anything. The grade is genuine, it was properly awarded, and A+ is a good grade. It just means the words "NAAC A+" carry less information than the marketing implies, and the CGPA is the number actually worth asking for.
Worth noting: while researching this I found pages currently ranking for this exact question that state Sharda's grade as B++. That is wrong. If a site cannot get the accreditation grade right, treat the rest of its fee and placement numbers with the same suspicion.
No AICTE approval on the online programmes
Sharda's online programmes are UGC-DEB entitled. None of them is AICTE listed. Sharda's own online portal lists UGC entitlement, NAAC, NIRF, NBA and WES among its approvals, and does not claim AICTE for the online degrees.
For most people this changes nothing. UGC-DEB entitlement is what establishes that an online degree is equivalent to a conventional one for employment, government recruitment and further study. AICTE is a separate technical-education body, and its approval is not a general requirement for an online MBA or MCA to be valid.
It matters in one situation. Some government and PSU recruitment notifications name AICTE approval explicitly in their eligibility clause. If you are studying specifically to clear a recruitment rule you have already read, check whether that rule names AICTE. If it does, Sharda's online programmes will not satisfy it, and no amount of UGC-DEB entitlement changes that.
This is the single most useful thing on this page and I have not seen another site mention it.
NIRF ranks Sharda, but not for management
NIRF ranks the parent institution, not the online arm, and it publishes separate lists per category.
For 2025 Sharda holds rank 87 in the University category and rank 57 in Pharmacy. It holds no rank in the Management category.
So if you are weighing the online MBA, there is no NIRF position that describes your programme's school. The University rank of 87 describes the institution as a whole. The Pharmacy rank of 57 is irrelevant to you unless you are a pharmacy student, and any page that quotes it at an MBA applicant is padding.
An absent rank is not a bad rank. Plenty of solid institutions never enter a given category. But it does mean you cannot use NIRF to compare Sharda's management provision against a university that does hold a Management rank.
More than one website says Sharda Online
This is the thing that sends most people to Google asking whether Sharda is fake, and it is a fair question to ask.
Here is what is actually going on, because it looks stranger than it is. The university's main site is sharda.ac.in, and its navigation links to the online school at shardaonline.ac.in. That address then redirects to shardaonline.ai.
So the .ai domain is genuine. It is the destination of a redirect that starts on the university's own .ac.in site, which is about as good as provenance gets. I checked the redirect myself rather than taking anyone's word for it. A .ai address looks odd for an Indian university and that is almost certainly why you are here, but on this one the unusual domain is the real one.
Other addresses using the Sharda Online name do exist and are not part of that chain. I am not going to call any of them fraudulent, because some are plausibly marketing sites the university commissioned. You cannot tell from the outside, and you should not have to.
So use the rule that works regardless of which domain you land on. Start at sharda.ac.in and click through to the online school from there. Never start from an advertisement, a forwarded message, or a link an agent sends you. If a payment page asks for money on a domain you did not reach that way, stop and go back to sharda.ac.in.
Three places called Sharda, and one of them is not in India
Sharda operates its main campus at Knowledge Park III in Greater Noida. It also has a campus at Agra.
And since 2019 there has been Sharda University Uzbekistan, at Andijan, established under an Uzbek presidential decree and licensed by Uzbekistan's higher education ministry. It is a separate legal entity, not a branch you can enrol into from India expecting an Indian degree.
The distinction matters because a degree from the Uzbek institution is not the UGC-DEB entitled Indian degree you are researching. If any prospectus, agent or website mentions an international campus while you are applying for an online Indian degree, ask plainly which legal entity awards the certificate.
Verify Sharda yourself in four minutes
Four checks, four official sites, no logins, no counsellor required.
One. Open deb.ugc.ac.in, find Sharda University on the entitled list, and confirm the mode column says Online and your programme is named. Entitlement covers specific programmes, not the whole university.
Two. Open naac.gov.in and confirm the grade, the CGPA of 3.27 and the validity window. If the CGPA you are shown does not match, ask why.
Three. Open nirfindia.org and check the University category. Do not accept a Pharmacy rank as evidence about a management programme.
Four. Open ugc.gov.in and search the notices archive for the university name. This is the step almost nobody takes and it is the one that surfaces regulatory action before you pay.
Who should apply, and who should not
Sharda suits you if you want a UGC-DEB entitled degree from a recognised private university at a mid-market price, you are in or near the Delhi capital region where the name is known, and you value getting the paperwork right over buying a brand.
It suits you less if you are optimising for institutional prestige. There are entitled universities with higher NAAC CGPAs and actual Management rankings, and if the name on the certificate is doing heavy lifting in your plan, Sharda is not the strongest card available.
It also does not suit you if your target recruitment rule names AICTE. Read the notification first. That one is not a matter of opinion.
Final word
Sharda is a legitimate, entitled, properly accredited university, and the online degree it awards is valid for employment, government recruitment and further study. Nothing on this page should be read as a warning against it.
What I would say is that the marketing around it is doing more work than the underlying record needs. The A+ is at the floor of its band, there is no Management ranking, and there is no AICTE approval. None of those is disqualifying. All three are things you should know before you sign, and all three are absent from every other page answering this question. Decide on the whole picture.
