A software engineer weighing the next qualification usually has three tabs open: an MBA, a technical master's, and an executive postgraduate programme from a well-known institute. They get compared on fee, duration and brand, which are the three least important variables.
The variable that matters first is what the qualification legally is. One of these three is frequently not a degree, and that single fact changes the answer for a large number of people.

Read the diploma row twice. It is not a criticism of postgraduate programmes, many of which are excellent and are valued highly by employers who know them. It is a statement about what happens when a form asks for a postgraduate degree and you do not have one.
Choose by Direction, Not by Prestige

These are not mutually exclusive and they do not have to happen now. A technical master's early in a career compounds, because depth acquired at five years of experience gets applied for thirty. A management degree late in a career compounds too, because you arrive with the experience that makes the coursework meaningful rather than abstract.
The worst version is an MBA taken at three years of experience by someone who has not yet led anything. The coursework lands on nothing, the credential arrives before the evidence, and you spend the next five years explaining why you have a management degree and no management history.
Final Word
These three qualifications are not tiers of ambition. They are instruments pointed in different directions: deeper, sideways, or branded sideways. Pick the direction first, then verify what the award legally is, then compare fees.
