About This Specialisation

Most online finance MBAs teach accounting with some investment theory attached. This one leans the other way, and that is the main reason to pick it or avoid it.

SSODL is the fully-online arm of Symbiosis International University in Pune, running since 2020-21 under UGC-DEB entitlement. The university holds NAAC A++ and sits at rank 11 in the NIRF Management category.

Semester 3 covers Derivative Markets, Mergers and Acquisitions, Corporate Valuation, and Security Analysis and Portfolio Management. Semester 4 adds Investment Banking, Financial Engineering and Analytics, International Finance and Behavioral Finance. Behavioral Finance as a dedicated subject is uncommon in online MBA finance tracks and is worth noticing if wealth advisory or fund management is your direction.

The honest read: this suits someone moving toward valuation, treasury, research or deal support. If your work is financial reporting, taxation or controllership, an accounting-weighted programme fits your day job better and usually costs less.

Every SSODL specialisation shares the same Semester 3 and 4 spine: a research project in each semester, Corporate Governance and Ethics, Crisis Management in Business, Strategic Management, AI and ML for Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Global Business Environment, Conflict and Negotiation, Doing Business in India, and Business Transformation. The specialisation is what sits on top of that spine, which is usually four subjects in Semester 3 and four in Semester 4.

Fees quoted here are indicative and change between intakes. Confirm the current figure, the scholarship terms and what sits outside the tuition with SSODL in writing before you pay.

Skills You Develop

The practical outcome is that you can build a valuation and defend it in a room where someone disagrees with you.

Corporate Valuation and Mergers and Acquisitions carry the modelling work: discounted cash flow, comparable company analysis, and the arithmetic behind an acquisition price. Derivative Markets covers how options, futures and swaps are used to hedge rather than to speculate, which is the framing corporate treasury desks actually need.

Security Analysis and Portfolio Management gives you equity research structure and risk-adjusted return thinking. Investment Banking covers transaction mechanics, pitch structure and deal process, which is the vocabulary you need before anyone will let you near a live mandate.

Behavioral Finance is the odd one out and the more interesting for it. It covers why investors act against their own models, which is useful in advisory work and rarely taught at this level.
