About This Specialisation

International business is taught two ways: as strategy for multinationals, or as the mechanics of moving goods and money across borders. This one is firmly the second, and that makes it more useful to more people.

SSODL is the fully-online arm of Symbiosis International University in Pune, running since 2020-21 under UGC-DEB entitlement. The university holds NAAC A++ and sits at rank 11 in the NIRF Management category.

Semester 3 covers Export Import Management, International Marketing, International Finance, and Trade Finance and FOREX Management. Semester 4 adds International Logistics, Management of International Operations, International Human Resource Management, and Performance Management System.

Trade Finance and FOREX Management is the subject that earns its place. Letters of credit, currency exposure and the financing of a shipment are where export businesses actually lose money, and they are rarely taught properly outside specialist certifications.

Every SSODL specialisation shares the same Semester 3 and 4 spine: a research project in each semester, Corporate Governance and Ethics, Crisis Management in Business, Strategic Management, AI and ML for Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Global Business Environment, Conflict and Negotiation, Doing Business in India, and Business Transformation. The specialisation is what sits on top of that spine, which is usually four subjects in Semester 3 and four in Semester 4.

Strategic Management — Develop international business strategy: market entry modes, global competitive positioning, and cross-border M&A strategy.
5.
AI and ML for Business Management — Apply AI-driven international market intelligence, automated trade compliance tools, and ML-based FOREX analytics.
6.
Export Import Management — Manage export documentation, DGFT regulations, customs clearance procedures, and import duty optimisation for trade roles.
7.
International Marketing — Adapt brand positioning, pricing strategy, and distribution for international market entry across emerging and developed markets.
8.
International Finance — Manage cross-border capital structures, multinational treasury, and foreign subsidiary financial management.
9.
Trade Finance and FOREX Management — Apply letters of credit, trade credit instruments, FOREX hedging, and currency risk management for international trade.

Project II (10 Credits) — Complete a full international business dissertation on market entry strategy, trade finance, or global operations management.

Entrepreneurship — Build an international startup strategy: cross-border market validation, export-first go-to-market, and global funding strategy.
3.
Global Business Environment — Analyse geopolitical risk, multilateral trade frameworks, and global economic shifts impacting international business strategy.
4.
Conflict and Negotiation — Negotiate cross-border contracts, international joint venture agreements, and diplomatic business disputes.
5.
Doing Business in India — handle India's export-import policy, FEMA regulations, RBI compliance, and FDI framework for international business roles.
6.
Business Transformation and Organizational Turnaround — Lead international business restructuring: subsidiary rationalisation, market exit strategy, and global portfolio optimisation.
7.
International Logistics — Design international freight networks, manage customs brokerage, and apply incoterms to global supply chain roles.
8.
Management of International Operations — Manage global operations centres, offshore teams, and multi-country production and service delivery networks.
9.
International Human Resource Management — Design expatriate policies, cross-cultural onboarding programmes, and global mobility strategy for multinational HR roles.
10.
Performance Management System — Build global KPI frameworks, cross-border performance appraisal systems, and multinational target-setting processes.

Export Import Management and Trade Finance and FOREX Management cover the machinery: documentation, incoterms, letters of credit, and how to hedge a receivable denominated in a currency you do not control. This is the operational core and the most transferable part.

International Marketing covers how a proposition has to change between markets, and where standardising costs you more than adapting. International Logistics covers routing, cost structure and the customs interface.

Management of International Operations and International Human Resource Management handle the organisational side: running a team across time zones, and the posting, pay and compliance questions that come with people working in more than one jurisdiction.
