About This Specialisation

Supply chain work has changed twice in a decade: first through technology, then through the reporting obligations that come with emissions and supplier conduct. Most curricula caught the first change and not the second.

SSODL is the fully-online arm of Symbiosis International University in Pune, running since 2020-21 under UGC-DEB entitlement. The university holds NAAC A++ and sits at rank 11 in the NIRF Management category.

Semester 3 covers Supply Chain Management, Warehouse Management, Supply Chain Strategy and Technology in Supply Chain. Semester 4 adds International Logistics, Lean Six Sigma, Supply Chain Modeling and Design, and Sustainable Supply Chain.

The last of those is the reason to look here. A dedicated sustainability subject is rare in Indian online supply chain tracks, and it is becoming a live requirement for anyone supplying into European or listed customers.

Supply Chain Modeling and Design is the other substantial one. Network design is the decision with the longest shadow in this field and it is usually taught as a footnote.

Every SSODL specialisation shares the same Semester 3 and 4 spine: a research project in each semester, Corporate Governance and Ethics, Crisis Management in Business, Strategic Management, AI and ML for Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Global Business Environment, Conflict and Negotiation, Doing Business in India, and Business Transformation. The specialisation is what sits on top of that spine, which is usually four subjects in Semester 3 and four in Semester 4.

Semester 3 and 4 — Logistics and Supply Chain Management Subjects

Project I (4 Credits) — Conduct a structured supply chain research project on inventory optimisation, logistics cost reduction, or 3PL management.

Corporate Governance and Ethics — Apply ESG standards to supply chain sourcing decisions, supplier code of conduct, and responsible logistics practices.

Crisis Management in Business — Manage supply chain disruption: port strikes, raw material shortages, and natural disaster-driven logistics recovery.
4.
Strategic Management — Design supply chain network strategy: sourcing footprint, make-vs-buy, and global distribution network planning.
5.
AI and ML for Business Management — Apply AI-driven demand forecasting, ML-based inventory replenishment, and autonomous supply chain decision-making concepts.
6.
Supply Chain Management — Apply integrated supply chain frameworks: SCOR model, demand-supply synchronisation, and supply chain risk management.
7.
Warehouse Management — Design warehouse layout, manage WMS implementation, and optimise pick-pack-ship operations for e-commerce and manufacturing.
8.
Supply Chain Strategy — Build supply chain network design, sourcing strategy, and long-range supply chain transformation roadmaps.
9.
Technology in Supply Chain — Evaluate RFID, IoT, blockchain, and supply chain visibility platforms for digital supply chain management.

Semester 4

1.
Project II (10 Credits) — Complete a full supply chain management dissertation applying logistics strategy or network design theory to a real case.
2.
Entrepreneurship — Build a logistics startup strategy: last-mile delivery model, 3PL marketplace design, or supply chain SaaS business plan.
3.
Global Business Environment — Analyse global trade disruptions, geopolitical supply chain risks, and international logistics cost drivers.
4.
Conflict and Negotiation — Negotiate 3PL contracts, carrier rate agreements, and vendor SLAs for logistics and supply chain roles.
5.
Doing Business in India — handle India's GST impact on logistics, GST e-waybill compliance, warehousing policy, and road freight regulations.
6.
Business Transformation and Organizational Turnaround — Lead supply chain transformation: 3PL consolidation, network redesign, and digital supply chain implementation.
7.
International Logistics — Manage cross-border freight forwarding, customs clearance, incoterms, and international distribution network design.
8.
Lean Six Sigma — Apply Green Belt level DMAIC tools to supply chain waste elimination, process standardisation, and logistics cost reduction.
9.
Supply Chain Modeling and Design — Build supply chain network models, optimise facility locations, and design multi-echelon inventory systems.
10.
Sustainable Supply Chain — Apply ESG principles, carbon footprint reduction, circular supply chain design, and responsible sourcing frameworks.

Warehouse Management and Technology in Supply Chain cover the operating layer, from slotting and throughput to the systems that track it. International Logistics adds cross-border movement, documentation and the cost structure of shipping.

Lean Six Sigma gives you the improvement discipline and the statistics to support it. Sustainable Supply Chain covers emissions accounting across tiers, supplier standards and the reporting that increasingly travels with a contract.
