About This Specialisation

Operations specialisations usually pick a side: manufacturing or services. This one covers both, which is either a strength or a dilution depending on where you work.

SSODL is the fully-online arm of Symbiosis International University in Pune, running since 2020-21 under UGC-DEB entitlement. The university holds NAAC A++ and sits at rank 11 in the NIRF Management category.

Semester 3 runs Procurement and Materials Management, Service Operations Management, Total Quality Management, and Operations Planning and Scheduling. Semester 4 adds Outsourcing and IT Delivery Models, International Logistics, Digital Manufacturing and Analytics, and Lean Six Sigma.

Outsourcing and IT Delivery Models is the subject worth noticing. It is unusual in an operations track and it maps directly onto how Indian services firms actually run delivery, which is a large employer base around Pune specifically.

Every SSODL specialisation shares the same Semester 3 and 4 spine: a research project in each semester, Corporate Governance and Ethics, Crisis Management in Business, Strategic Management, AI and ML for Business Management, Entrepreneurship, Global Business Environment, Conflict and Negotiation, Doing Business in India, and Business Transformation. The specialisation is what sits on top of that spine, which is usually four subjects in Semester 3 and four in Semester 4.

Fees quoted here are indicative and change between intakes. Confirm the current figure, the scholarship terms and what sits outside the tuition with SSODL in writing before you pay.

Skills You Develop

The outcome is being able to look at a process and say where the time and money are going, with evidence.

Operations Planning and Scheduling and Procurement and Materials Management cover capacity, inventory and the supplier side: what to hold, what to order, and what a stockout actually costs. Total Quality Management and Lean Six Sigma give you the structured improvement methods, including the statistical grounding to tell a real improvement from noise.

Service Operations Management handles the case where capacity cannot be stored and demand arrives unevenly, which is most of the service economy.

Outsourcing and IT Delivery Models covers delivery structures, vendor governance and the commercial shape of an outsourcing arrangement. Digital Manufacturing and Analytics covers instrumentation and what to do with the data once a process starts producing it.
